Q: Kidney pain?
Since last night around 11pm I’ve been suffering from what seems to be acute kidney pain on the left side. It began quite quickly and within a few minutes I felt debilitated, though it lessened within 1-2 hours and I was able to sleep with help from a heating pad.

This morning I felt a bit of pain still, but nonetheless have made it to work. It’s now beginning to act up more (perhaps because I’m sitting?). I don’t really want to have to go to the doctor today… what else could I do to get rid of the pain? I’ve not yet taken any pain relievers for fear that it might enhance my problems (put more strain on the kidney). I’ve already increased my water intake.

Any suggestions appreciated.

A: Water water and water again.

Diminish greatly your intake of spices and salt.
Thats the best you can do right now.
Alcohol is bad too for your kidneys.. what your liver cannot process is processed by your kidneys

Q: kidney pain????
Are there any good home remedies for kidney pain?

A: Definetely see a doctor i had one like two weeks ago and the pain had got so bad i could barely stand it…it also started causing nausea and dizziness like i was going to pass out all the time. The doc just does a pee test and gives you antibiotics if it is a kidney infection and i was on atibiotics for 7 days and by the fourth day of taking it there was no pain. Just ask yourself would you prefer to take the time out to go to a doc or have kidney failure? I strongly suggest get treated!

Q: Kidney Pain?
I’m 13. Within the past month, I’ve gotten drunk about 3 or 4 times. Two weeks ago, I started to have REALLY bad left kidney pain. It keeps coming back. Only today, I had a little right kidney pain. I also have a sleeping disorder, but I eat well. I haven’t had my period in four months, but I’m a virgin. What’s going on???

A: Tell your parent or guardian. Go to a clinic or family doctor. Kidney infections can be dangerous. If you develop a fever and back pain go to the ER. I had a bad kidney infection once and ignored it. I finally went to the doctor when I developed a fever. The doctor put me on strong antibiotic medication. She said if it had gotten worse I would have kidney failure.

Basic lesson is… Don’t ignore your body.

Q: How can kidney pain be distinguished from pain due to other causes?
This question is on the behalf of someone who has known defective kidney (but not bladder problems). The person is trying to figure out when its actually kidney pain and needs to be reported to the doctor versus a “stitch in the side” or a strained muscle.

A: Usually kidney pain is excruciating. It hurts to stand, to sit, to lay down. Painkillers don’t help. It’s nothing like pulling a muscle.

Q: How do tell difference between backpain and kidney pain?
How do tell difference between backpain and kidney pain?

Just so you know, i have H.PYLORI and alot of stomach problems aswell.

A: by going to the doctor.

Q: Anyone gets kidney pain when stressed and know how to prevent that?
I get kidney pain on both kidneys when I am stressed. The pain is sharp and I can’t even move or breath when it hits. It usually come like waves and go away after one minute or so. I went to the doctors and they don’t know what I am talking about and all tests come back normal. Does anyone know something about that?

A: The pain is probably coming from your (overworked) adrenal glands. The name “ad-renal” means “on-kidney”, those are important glands which produce adrenaline, a hormone your body produces in large amounts when it is under stress.

There are a few things you need to do, if you don’t want the condition to become even worse over time:

- Avoid stress like the plague and learn to deal with it (not everything that happens around you has to influence you)
- Take vitamin C every day, with food. Start wtih about 500mg twice daily, am and pm, then increase a bit by bit to at least 2000mg a day if not even more. You don’t notice the effects of vitamin C, but humans need tons of it every day.
- Take iodine supplements of some kind, my favorite is called Atomidine
- Take pantothenic acid (Vitamin B-5) also every day.
- You may want to take vitamin B complex later when your situation improves considerably instead of only vitamin B-5. But if you feel weak or stressed, immediately take B-5

Take a lot of rest, and do not eat junk food, especially no sugar, no soft drinks, and most definitely never any illicit drugs.

All of these things are not going to be bad for you even if your problem is not adrenal glands, but if the situation does not improve over time (adrenals take a loooooooong time to recover – months or even years), then at least you know it’s not that.

Q: How can I tell the difference between left side back pain and kidney pain?
it seems like it is where my kidney is, but it feels like muscles to. i noticed my left side felt a little pain as well when i was sleeping but not bad. it occured yesterday, but today i have been totally fine.
i also what to add that i am 22, no urinary problems as of now, i drink alot of water every day, eat pretty healthy and drink alcohol/ beer occasionally.

A: You should be careful. If you’re not sure if it’s your kidneys or your back you should go to the hospital.

When my mom was in Florida they misdiagnosed kidney failure for back pain and when she came back to Massachusetts they told her she wouldn’t have lasted another week.

Q: My mom has been suffering from high fevers and kidney pain. Does anyone know the reason?
Shes had a high fever for the past 3 days, and everytime she goes to the bathroom she complains about kidney pain. Can anyone help?

A: Your mom probably has a kidney infection that by now may have invaded her blood stream. Encourage her to go to the nearest walk in clinic for an evaluation. They can give her fluids and antibiotics to help fight the infection.

Q: Whats with the kidney pain right after running?
Alright i had to take a fitness test and i ran 1.5 miles, i ran nonstop and a couple hours later i felt a pain in the area by my kidney.

I used to run a lot in cross-country and i have never felt that pain before, it wasn’t a stitch.
Is it because i didn’t drink water or what?

?

A: Sometimes, when you run for extended periods, you get a almost-cramp type thing in your side or back. It usually means you aren’t drinking enough water or that you aren’t made to run that far, that you are pushing yourself too hard.

Q: I got the depo provera shot last week, now I have kidney pains and pain in my rib cage?
I got the shot over a week ago and I started getting really bad back pains (where my kidney’s are), very bad pain on the right side of my rib cage, especially when I walk. And a stiff neck (this may just be from sleeping) Does anybody know if these can be side effects from the shot? I just don’t like going to the Dr’s.

A: might be swollen

Q: What are some causes of kidney pain?
Besides kideny stones. I have had a terrrible pain on the right side of my lower back. I am assuming it is my kidney and not the muscle because I can stretch and bend that muscle and I can feel no pain or stress in that area.

A: My wife has had several kidney stones pass since we have been married and our new family Dr. sent her for an IVP to see what was going on..(IVP is a fancy term for lots of xrays with dye shot through an IV at different time intervals so they can see the whole system nice and bright) She found out that she has a congenital birth defect called Medullary Sponge Kidney. MSK is the dialation of the tubes that lead from the kidneys to the bladder and there are little pools of urine that can crystalize and make stones… this can affect 1 or both kidneys. She now knows that when she gets that feeling (pain in the low back, sometimes coming in waves, but mostly constant, not sharp like the passing of a stone) she may or may not pass a stone…it could just be the stone moving or a sign that she isn’t drinking enough water. An episode can last from a few hours to several days. MKS is a congenital birth defect and does usually show up until a person in thier 20-30’s. Contact your Dr.

Q: What is the best way to stop coughing-induced kidney pain?
My brother is working in the snow and just rang me to see if I can help him out. He is feeling very sick and coughing a lot with much phlegm, fever and dizziness if he is mobile The doctor has told him to just rest. He is complaining of sore kidneys, possibly because of the strain with all the coughing, can you please suggest something that may help alleviate the pain?

Thanks

A: Tell him to use Otrivin, Nasal spray , 1 squirt into each nostril 3-4 times daily, it is good for coughs and colds. Also Paracetamol tablet 3 times in a day. Hot drinks like tea, soups etc will also help. Try this for 3-4 days, if it is not helpfiul then see a doctor.

Q: Can Bengay be used to relieve kidney pain?
I have been dealing with pain near my right kidney. I put Bengay on it and it feels better. Can Bengay help kidney pain or does this mean that the pain is in my muscles instead of my kidneys?

A: Ben-gay would only mask the muscle pain. Why do you not go see your Physician to determine the cause of the pain?

Q: What is the reason for my kidney pain?
I have been having pain since yesterday in my back and left kidney area, particularly near my spine, I was diagonesed with a kidney stone in the left side a few months back, but have been in hospital a few times with pain and now they believe the stone has gone, I don`t think I have an infection but I am scared at what the pain can be, it is a dull pain but it can go more severe like burning or a sharp pain, as I have had stones and infections in the past it does not feel like neither but I don`t know what else it can be. I don`t want to go to the hospital again as they now think the stone has gone and don`t know what is wrong, they make me feel like I am making the pain up, but I am not the last thing I want is to feel like this all the time. I am drinking loads of water, etc and trying hot and cold packs but nothing is easing the pain, if anyone has any suggestions I would be grateful, I live in Spain and I just wish I could be back in uk speaking to a doctor that understands me.

A: I’m not a doctor, but I have had a similar experience. I have an intestinal disease – when I was at my sickest, I also had a dull pain in my lower back around the kidneys. Tests showed nothing wrong otherwise, so my doctor concluded it was “referred pain” from my illness. Sure enough, once I got the intestinal issue resolved, the back pain went away.

I guess the point is that you could have another underlying issue that needs to be resolved. Good luck!
