Q: leg pain?
I do a lot of ballet, and there is never a problem. But in gym class I always get a pain in my leg after doing a cartwheel.

The pain is where my left leg meets my hip, and I sort of feel like pulling it out of it’s socket to make it feel better. But obviously that would only make it worse. It hurts loads when I walk for about 15 minutes, but after that it feels fine again.

This happens every time I do a cartwheel and is really annoying me.

Does anybody know what this is or how I could prevent it?

Thank you!

A: You probably haven’t stretched for a while. When you stretch, you’re relaxing your muscles. If you don’t do it for a while you apply an instant pull to your muscle. By doing warm ups you gradually lengthen your muscles which can then apply forces in any direction. However, your muscle can go further when relaxed than when contracted. That’s why when you walked for 15 minutes you relaxed your muscles and felt better after.

Q: Leg pain…?
Okay sometimes when i flex my calve muscles while sitting down i seem to pull a muscle or tendon or artie and a horrible pain shoots up my leg and stops just below my knee, this pain kills, i feel like screaming, i sware its the worse pain ever…however it only lasts like a minute and then disappears….any idea what is happening here, it could be a charlie horse but im not quite sure??? anyone know what this is called? all advice, opinions and guesses help!

A: This sounds like you are dealing with a form of tendonitis (an example only). I would recommend getting in touch with your doctor for further evaluation of the situation to see what they say.

Q: Leg Pain…?
For the past four years I’ve had a pain that is progressively worsening. It used to be localized only in my right thigh. I wake up at night in pain. Then I began feeling it during the day when I’d cross my legs (right leg on top) and now when I really do a lot of physical work. I cannot lay on my right side while sleeping. Even Yoga has become uncomfortable. Sometimes I feel it in my right hip. Sometimes my right knee. Most of the time my right thigh and lower right back. Any ideas?

A: try asking a doctor or a phisical therapist

Q: Horrible lower leg pain immediately after exercising, but not while active. Any ideas what this is?
I play lacrosse, and when i warm up, my lower leg area begins to hurt minimally, but after about a minute, the pain is gone until i stop running. Immediately after stopping (within 10 seconds) my legs hurt horribly. It takes another minute to get back to no pain, but during this minute, the pain in my lower is terrible. Any ideas?

A: maybe a stress fracture

Q: Is pain in the lower back with leg pain at the same time necessarily a disc problem?
I’ve been feeling especially when I play basketball, a pain on my lower back that shoots along the side of my left leg.

It’s kind of bad, no tingling sensation, no pain when sitting down or anything.

A: It could be anything from muscle strain to ligament trouble. Use heat, massage, etc. If keep going, check with your doctor.

Q: What kind of leg pain is associated with ovarian cancer?
Hi, Im doing a project and Im at the symptoms of ovarian cancer and one of the symptoms is leg pain, but I’m having a hard time explaining it, is it just regular leg cramps that you get in your calf or does it radiate down your leg. Also I can’t find out how intense the pain is, so what kind of leg pain is associated with ovarian cancer, and what leg pain should people be looking for! Thanks for the help!
Also I read that the pain is usually in the shin not the calf is there any truth to that?? Thanks again!!

A: Actually to the person who said leg pain is not a symptom of ovarian cancer, they are wrong. It is a symptom of ovarian and cervical cancer and it is non stop bone pain down the tibia. Sometimes the pain shoots around the pelvic bone also, the reason why it is in the leg (and only one leg, not both) is because of the collection of nerves that meet at the pelvis. Once the tumor is big enough, it usually invades the pelvis and presses on one of these nerves.

Q: What do you do to instantly heal leg pain?
I had a little vigorous dance practice today (shud I tell you that i’m not used to dancing much?) So it’s was like about an hour of OVERALL practice and now my leg hurts! I have a long day at skool tomorrow. I don’t even have any pain relief sprays available. Any remedies?

A: Wash you rlegs with cool water; Do not wipe them; keep your legs in raised position ( sit on floor and keep your legs on a chair. After a few minutes, you will feel a good relief.

Legs pain whencarbon-di-oxide (CO2) is more at legs area due to heavy running or walking or dancing. This should get replaced by Oxygen(O2). When you keep legs in raised position, CO2 drips off and O2 enters toelgs area. You will instantly feel the relief.

Q: What is causing my severe lower leg pain?
Since resuming horse riding about 2 months ago I have had agonising pain in my legs. I have shin splints in my right leg and terrible pain in my left ankle. My weekly chiropractor visits now entails massaging my right calf muscle and left ankle muscles. The pain is so terrible it makes me cry but we think this is the only way to eventually relieve the pain. Should I continue with this or seek specialist advice?

A: Keep an eye on this and if the pain, weakness or tingling continues it may be the beginning of DVT. A vascular surgeon can perform a Doppler ultra scan test and identify the problem.

This is very painful and pain pills do not help. I have had it for over 2 years and the doctor was slow to diagnose it until I was in critical shape.

Mine started with a sudden onset of calf pain and leg swelling. The pain was worse when the leg was hanging down. There was warmth to the area because the veins were inflamed.

I am on coumidin (warfarin) as a blood thinner. Usually when they say 6 months, they mean for the rest of your life. The blood thinner does not resolve the current clot problem, but supposedly keeps new clots from forming.

Deep vein thrombosis, or DVT, is caused by a blood clot in a muscle and can be life-threatening. Symptoms include swelling, pain, and tenderness in the legs. Risk factors include immobility, hormone therapy, and pregnancy.

DVTs can occur anywhere in the body but are most frequently found in the deep veins of the legs, thighs, and pelvis. They may infrequently arise from the upper extremities usually because of trauma, or from an indwelling catheter (tubing) or device.

A deep vein thrombosis (DVT) is a condition wherein a blood clot (thrombus) forms in a vein of the deep system.

Thrombophlebitis is a condition in which there is both inflammation and a blood clot in a vein. Thrombophlebitis can occur in either superficial or deep veins. Superficial thrombophlebitis occurs in veins close to the skin surface, and usually causes pain, swelling, and redness in the area of the vein. Superficial thrombophlebitis usually is treated with heat, elevation of the affected leg or arm, and anti–inflammatory medications. A thrombosis in a deep vein is a much more serious problem than one in a superficial vein. The reason for this is that a piece of the clot in deep vein from a DVT can break off and travel through the deep veins back to the heart, and eventually be pumped by the heart into the arteries of the lung. When this happens, the condition is called pulmonary embolism (PE). The blood clot is called an embolus (plural emboli), and the process of breaking off and traveling to the lungs is called embolism.

Narcotics didn’t help my pain. I now take Tizanidine 4mg 8/day and Lyrica Cv 200 mg 2/day. This helps the nerve pain and I can walk some now. I am feeling much better pain wise.

Q: What could achy leg pain and tingly toes mean?
Achy pain in left leg just above the inner knee and at the hip. Tingly toes followed shortly thereafter, both have persisted for about 30 minutes so far (first time this has happened). Pain increases with walking, decreases with rest. Tingly toes unaffected by movement/rest. Is this just one of those things, or something I should get checked out by a doctor tomorrow? Serious answers only please.

A: sounds like a pinched nerve. If you pinch the nerve in your lower back, it will cause you to have tingling in your toes and can make your legs ache. i get the same thing ALL the time.

Q: What causes severe leg pain & swelling with purple color while pregnant?
I am 31 weeks and 5 days pregnant & I have been experiencing severe leg pain in my left leg starting at my hip with swelling and a purple discoloration. Only when I stand up, if I am laying down I am fine. What could be causing this?

A: poor circulation. it was the opposite for me when i was pregnant last time. when i laid down, id get awful, horrid, cramps in my legs.. unbearable to say the least. not much u can do.. just keep moving as best you can. swelling and veins is also normal..unfortunately. youre packed to the max with fluids right now. try to cut back on salt, that helps sometimes

Q: How Long does leg pain last after a charlie horse?
I got up one morning, had a little chest pain, like two sharp pains that went away quickly. I went back to bed because i was soo tired. I woke up with a horrible charlie horse in my calf. That was 5 days ago, and my leg still hurts and is swollen also. Is this normal after a charlie horse?

A: No, it absolutely should not be still hurting 5 days later. I get charlie horse’s every once in a while and it’s from a lack of potassium. I usually eat a banana that day and then I won’t have another one for a year or more. (I don’t exercise as much as I should) You, on the other hand, because you had the chest pains and then the charlie horse and the pain is still there, sound like you may have a blood clot that is traveling around in your bloodstream. I would definitely go to the dr. and explain this to them.

Q: What would cause random bruising and leg pain?
I have had pain in my left leg for about a week now; it started out on the back of my thigh, accompanied with random bruises. It has moved down to my calf and the back of my heel and my toes. My thigh still hurts the most though. I have not been hit or anything to cause a bruise. Any ideas as to what may be causing this?

A: The pain sounds like it’s happening because of pressure on the nerves going to your legs, if the pressure shifts it changes what and where the pain is. This happens when there are tight muscles in your lower back pressing onto the nerves going to your legs. I don’t know if that has anything to do with the bruising. Here’s how to free up your back muscles to get the pressure off the nerves:
Back:
(do from a sitting position)
Place your left hand on your left leg next to your body. Place your right hand over your left shoulder, fingers over the back and the palm in the front and firmly press on them and hold. After 30 seconds slowly lower your body forward and to the outside of your left leg, keeping your left arm fairly straight as you do. When you reach your lap remain there for another 10 seconds, release the pressure but rest there for another 30 seconds. Then reverse your hand positions and do your right side.
For best results relax your body first by taking a deep breath and exhaling then remain this relaxed.

Q: LEG PAIN??????????????????????????
I walk up 3 flights of stairs everyday up and down cuz im in college and im on the heavy side and today my leg just started hurtn like my right life right where that fat part is in the back of ur leg it hurts sooooo bad like someone is tryn to pull a nob r something… what could this be??
Its been contracting too

A: do you ever stretch your leg muscles? if you work them everyday and never stretch them the muscle gets tighter until you get pain. it’s the bodies way of saying either lay off what your doing a few days so i can release the muscle tension or stretch my legs properly so i can function properly when you need me to take you up the stars.

Q: What can cause pain in the leg bone from below the knee down the pain is terrible, notheg helps?
the pain was only when I was off my feet, but has started hurting when I am on my feet no injuries to that leg, pain is only in right leg. Nothing seems to help, darvaset helps some but dose not take the pain away.

A: Could be what is known as shin splints. You should see an orthopedist. If you can’t, I’d ice it and apply a heating pad alternately, rest it, and take an anti-inflammatory medication like Alleve or Motrin (the store brands work just as well, just read the active ingredients to be sure you’ve got the same meds). Doctors often put shin splint patients in kind of a soft walking cast to keep the muscles in front of the lower leg relaxed. I hope this helps. If after a few days the pain doesn’t subside you should really see a doc. in case it’s something more serious.

Q: Can back and leg pain be a sign of kidney problems in diabetics?
I have been experiencing back and leg pain when my blood levels are running high. Just wanted to know if anyone else has this problem.

A: These symptoms are indicative of Kidney problems in ANYONE. They are classic symptoms. Plus if you run a tempature you could have an infection in your kidneys, or you might have some kidney stones. You need to call your doctor and have them check things out.
