Q: Why do I have intense calf pain?
Lately I have been having really bad calf pain in just my left calf. Its not like a cramp, its like every time I walk, I feel like something is ripping. Its unlike any soreness Ive ever had from practice, is it lack of potassium, or something more?
A: The tendon is aggravated and needs to be released. Tendons to me are like a turtle’s head, they go in and out, and like to pull in when they perceive trauma around them. The only bad thing is that they sometimes get locked there and need some help in getting released.
For your calf, pull that leg up onto your lap. Take both your hands and grab the tendon at about shoe height, keeping your hands about an inch apart. Squeeze hard and hold. Now relax, take a deep breath and exhale and don’t tense up any part of your body, including your arms, let your hands do the work. After 30 seconds slowly pull your toes upward until your foot is fully extended. Release the pressure on the tendons and hold your foot like that for one minute. I would do the other one as a precaution.
Q: Anybody have any remedies or anything to help with calf pain?
I run track, and I’m a total distance runner.
Practices just started about a week ago, and my calves are killing me.
Do you have ay remedies? Or anything to help, b/c I’m in a lot of pain and I have practice on Monday and I can’t miss it or else my coach will not be happy with me
A: calf pain and leg cramps can be a sign of low potassium.
Drink some gatorade or eat some banans after working out.
Q: What should i do for calf pain?
I’ve had calf pain for a few weeks. Also sometimes my leg feels cold.My problem is i don’t have health insurance at the moment.Im scared.I know i should go the ER,but i can’t take on anymore debts. What should i do?
A: You could be pulling at a muscle or something else which is causing mini charlie-horses… try eating a banana a day. The potassium may help, and if nothing else, its a cheap solution to try at least.
Q: I have been having lower calf pain in left leg for a few months now mostly at nignt.?
Lower leg pain in left calf for some time now. Thought it was restless leg because it is a night thing mostly when I get tired and in for the night. If I get up and take a real hot shower the pain goes away and i am relaxed for about 20 minutes then the cramping comes backs. I got up this morning and for the first time my leg really hurt. It appears to be going away as the day goes on but any ideas.
A: You have been treating yourself for a cramp in your leg. I was told to drink lots of water, banana everyday if possible, or drink Tonic Water which has Quinine in it. Look for it in the water section of your grocery store.
Q: What causes calf pain when bending knee?
Also, pain when standing up after sitting for awhile. I went to movies and at the end could barely stand and no pain during movie.
A: Keep an eye on this and if the pain, weakness or tingling continues it may be the beginning of DVT. A vascular surgeon can perform a Doppler ultra scan test and identify the problem.
This is very painful and pain pills do not help. I have had it for over 2 years and the doctor was slow to diagnose it until I was in critical shape.
Mine started with a sudden onset of calf pain and leg swelling. The pain was worse when the leg was hanging down. There was warmth to the area because the veins were inflamed.
I am on coumidin (warfarin) as a blood thinner. Usually when they say 6 months, they mean for the rest of your life. The blood thinner does not resolve the current clot problem, but supposedly keeps new clots from forming.
Deep vein thrombosis, or DVT, is caused by a blood clot in a muscle and can be life-threatening. Symptoms include swelling, pain, and tenderness in the legs. Risk factors include immobility, hormone therapy, and pregnancy.
DVTs can occur anywhere in the body but are most frequently found in the deep veins of the legs, thighs, and pelvis. They may infrequently arise from the upper extremities usually because of trauma, or from an indwelling catheter (tubing) or device.
A deep vein thrombosis (DVT) is a condition wherein a blood clot (thrombus) forms in a vein of the deep system.
Thrombophlebitis is a condition in which there is both inflammation and a blood clot in a vein. Thrombophlebitis can occur in either superficial or deep veins. Superficial thrombophlebitis occurs in veins close to the skin surface, and usually causes pain, swelling, and redness in the area of the vein. Superficial thrombophlebitis usually is treated with heat, elevation of the affected leg or arm, and anti–inflammatory medications. A thrombosis in a deep vein is a much more serious problem than one in a superficial vein. The reason for this is that a piece of the clot in deep vein from a DVT can break off and travel through the deep veins back to the heart, and eventually be pumped by the heart into the arteries of the lung. When this happens, the condition is called pulmonary embolism (PE). The blood clot is called an embolus (plural emboli), and the process of breaking off and traveling to the lungs is called embolism.
Narcotics didn’t help my pain. I now take Tizanidine 4mg 8/day and Lyrica Cv 200 mg 2/day. This helps the nerve pain and I can walk some now. I am feeling much better pain wise.
Q: What could be the cause of my pain that starts in my calf and works its way up my leg?
I run cross country and have been experiencing pain in my right calf. the pain works its way up my leg to my butt. at this point im in so much pain i need to stop. i have tried stretching when it gets this pain full but i cannot because it hurts even more.
i also stretch really well before i run and after i run.
A: If you have not seen a doctor, you should def. at least call him/her. The pain is probably not just a cramp. because of the amount of pain. You also may have gotten bit by something like a spider without notifcing it. That can cause that kind of pain.
hope this helps

Q: What is the difference between a Charley horse and Calf pain ?
Which one is the one where you’re sleeping and wake up with horrible pain in your lower leg ?
A: That is a charley horse. The best way to get rid of those is to point your toes up in the air. It gets rid of the pain
Q: i get pain in ankle and calf while cycling, what could it be?
i have been cycling for years ,but in the past year or two i have developed ankle and calf pain in both legs, i have a jagged type pedal and my seat is quite high.
does anyone know what i can do to stop this pain?
A: Are there two or more dogs biting your ankles?
Q: Hardcore calf pain in the middle of the night?
Have any of you guys ever woken up in the middle of the night with this massive calf pain and it hurts like a mother effer and you can’t move your leg or the pain will hurt much more?
A: yes, it’s called a charlie horse.
i get them in my legs because of a lack of potassium. you can also get them from not drinking enough water.
the only thing you can do is rub the crap out of your leg when it happens and just breath..they suck!
Q: Why do I have this arch, ankle, and back of calf pain?
Yesterday, I was sitting in class and when I got up to go to my next class I felt a terrible pain in my arch. Later, it spread to my ankle and now my calf. It hurts when walking and improves with rest, pain stopping almost immediately with rest. I don’t believe that I did anything to it at the time, however, I went running (which I usually don’t do) about a week and a half and six days prior. What is this injury and how should I treat it?
A: Could be your Achillies tendon , look it up and see if that is right and how to fix it
Q: How to cure calf muscle pain?
It’s been more than 15 days. I am getting calf muscle pain. Everyday I am getting massage with muscle ointment. But nothing is happened so far. I am not kind of sport guy and I have no accident to get this pain. Appreciate if anybody can help me to relieve this pain.
A: thanks rebecca
Q: Why do I get calf pain in the morning?
I am not particularly active, not obese but a little overweight. I get calf discomfort on the top and inner aspect of the calf muscles – both legs first thing in the morning that seems to disappear as the day goes on. I have a fairly busy job (nurse) and walk my dog 2-3 miles a day. I have had cramp in my calf once this year so know the difference.
A: Hello there,
Do you intake enough potassium?
Try adding some extra to your daily diet you should see an improvement. Also try to stretch, at least once a day.
Do you take NSAIDS for it?
Does it relieve your pain?
Are you recieving the right amount of rest?
I would see an orthopedic surgeon to make sure everything is working properly as intended.
(Try to stretch 2-3x a day)
Sincerely,
Stephen
Q: How can I relieve calf cramp pain?
I was sitting on the couch and I stretched out and my calf cramped for about three minutes. After that it hurt all day yesterday and especially today. I have to go to figure skating tonight, so I was wondering how I can relieve the pain.
A: Take Ibupofen or tylenol for immediate pn relief as long as you aren’t allergic. For the long run, make sure you drink lots of water. Also, sometimes cramps can be from lack of potassium, so eat some bananas.
Q: 32 weeks pregnant and really bad calf pain?
I have had this the last couple of days but today it is the worst to the point where I am crying.
Has anyone else had this it is not like my legs have cramps becuase they don’t they just hurt and the pain is right in my calf.
I have tried putting my feet up , resting my legs and nothing seems to help.
Anyone else experance this?
A: I had that too when I was towards the end of pregnancy. It could be that the baby is putting pressure on a certain nerve that runs down your right leg. Maybe try doing some mild exercises to encourage the baby to move around a little. Definitely stretch out your calves often. I used to have to stretch my calves every night before bed, so I wouldn’t wake up with those agonizing cramps in the middle of the night. Hang in there, it will all be worth it and you’ll feel so much better soon! Congrats on your baby!!
