Q: sharp shooting pain on top of the right side of my head?
Earlier I was doing very light stretches when I felt this excrutiating sharp needle like pain on the top of the right side of my head. It lasted for about 30 very long seconds. Afterwards, I had a dull head pain. Now, the top and back of my right ear and right ey aches. The right side of my jaw aches and feels numb at the same time.
What has caused this? Has anyone experienced anything similiar.
Thanks much.
A: It could be a nerve condition called Trigeminal Neuralgia (Trigeminal is the nerves in the face and Neuralgia is pain, so its basically nerve pain). If it is this (you can look at http://www.webmd.com to see if your symptoms match then go to your doctor for a proper diagnosis). Whether its TM or not it sounds like some kind of issue with the nerve. For now using a heating pad on the sore spots helps tremendously and if it happens again, go see your doctor as there are medications that work very well to help it from not happening often and lessen the severity of the pain. I always have a bruised feeling in my temples, under my eyes and in my jaw as well as a burning sensation in my jaw. I used to end up curled up in a ball in the ER about 4 times a year from the pain being so bad. I would get pain medication injections but finally realized I couldn’t deal with it anymore and needed a maintenance medication. I take Ultram everyday (I take it for another condition as well) and although I do have he pain sometimes, I haven’t had to go to the ER since I have started taking it. So, put some heat on it, take an Advil or Tylenol (Advil works best) and go look it up. Go see your doctor if it doesn’t go away. Nerve pain is one if the worst pains you can have so don’t suffer, go see your doctor if you need to. Good luck.
Q: Pain at back of head where neck connects with head?
I was bench pressing today and felt a sudden sharp pain at the back of my head. Pain quickly died down after a few minutes but after an hour or so it is still throbbing. Could I have strained a neck muscle?
A: Could be. Gently exercise it by turning your head side to side, and avoid applying heat if inflammation is present for at least 48 hours. Icing it immediately is ok if it is inflamed.
If pain is too severe to deal with or spreads to spine or other parts of your body, see a doctor. Tylenol should be fine for taking until you go in.
Q: What is this sharp pain on the right side of the top of my head?
Recently, I have been having this sporadic pain on the right side of my head near my front hairline and the top of my head.
The pain will come and go at the most random times, and it hurts!! It’s more of a throbbing pain then anything. I’m such a worry wart somatic and I always think I’m about to have an aneurysm or something!
Any suggestions on what it could be?
And I really don’t need dumb replies, like “you tried to think….” that just shows how stupid and ignorant you are. Not cool.
A: could be sinusitis’s.or migrane see doctor good luck
Q: Dizziness, right-side head pain & blurry right eye with dilated pupils. What is it?
I’ve been very dizzy when I move my head for about 8 hours now, to the point of nearly losing balance, I now have pain on the right side of my head along with my right eye being blurry and watery (both eyes dilated). Anyone know what’s going on?
A: I would call a doctor right away! Even if you can’t make an appointment the doctor might be able to determine whether or not this is an emergency situation! You shouldn’t drive and if anyone is around tell them you need help or call for help. Even take an ambulance!!! Doesn’t matter! This is something that’s not really a good idea to use yahoo answer question this is your life and health so get someone you know who can seriously help you like a doctor!
Q: Why does putting pressure on my head stop the pain?
I have a headache right now, but when I put pressure on the top of my head, the pain goes away. What is the reason behind this?
A: depends on the kind of headache. many headaches are caused by dilation of the cranial arteries (circle of willis), if you are putting pressure directly downward on your head, you may be causing some form of pressure on the vertebral arteries in your neck (Cervical Vertebral Arteries) indirectly. This could reduce blood flow to the dilated arteries in your head, reducing pain. Another cause could be sinus blockages being drained or slightly shifted by indirect pressure.
Q: Why do I get a sharp pain on the back upper left side of my head when I get angry?
My kids get my goat a lot and I become like phycho and angry. The problem is that I do this and I get a sharp pain on the upper left backside of head. This pain of course caused from the pressure put there when I became angry. I then feel a headache the rest of the day. What could this be? Any way to relieve this?
A: It could be blood pressure, it could be tension, it could be sinuses it could be other things. Check out this site which discusses headaches in detail and you might be able to figure out what is going on.

Q: 2day evry time i went from sitting or laying to standing up got severe head pain, anyone know why?
All day today every time I stood up or went from laying down to standing up I got sharp pains in my head lasting only about 30 seconds. I have never had a history of high blood pressure and there is no dizziness. Have no clue whats going on, anyone else know?
A: Are you having sinus problems, like allergic reaction, or stuffy head, or recently have had a cold? That can cause the symptoms you describe. But if it lasts more that a day or two, consult your doctor.
Q: Can not drinking caffeine cause neck and head pain?
I have been on a diet for about 1 week now and I have not drank caffeine since I have been dieting. I have had serious upper neck pain and its giving me a headache. Could not drinking soda cause this?
A: I have not taken any type of caffeine for 25 years. So 1 week is nothing! Sodas are not good for you anyways. Even worst are the diet ones. Withdrawal my cause headaches and other symptoms. Be patient. Neck pain, make sure it’s not your pillow. If you go back to caffeine try to control your intake, eliminating sodas and stick to no more than 1 cup of coffee per day.
Q: I have this weird head pain, what could it be?
I have this weird pain that creeps up my neck and into the right sided of my head whenever I bend over, or pick up something heavy, sneeze, or cough.. The pain goes away after a bit but then I have a feeling of nauseousness for about thirty minutes.
I am 23, I am overweight but I am in otherwise good health. I have had these symptoms for about 3 days now.
Any Ideas what this could be?
A: Sounds like a trapped nerve to me.
If you go see a doctor they just tell you to take pain killers and the pain should be gone in a few weeks
Hop you fee better
Q: Neck and head pain after roller coaster?
Went on Nitro and Superman at Six Flags today.
I immediately noticed a migraine-like pain and felt like my head was gonna fall off.
It seems like I caught the most of the ride in my head and neck area.
Was hurting badly before but a few hours since not so much.
I’m 19, no brain related trauma or neck discomfort other than chronic stiffness.
This was also my first time on one, so of course something was bound to go wrong.
Anyone else experience this “whiplash” pain, so to speak?
A: You injured your neck muscle during the ride, a most likely case. If nothing major, it will recover by itself. Use heat therapy and massage. Rest will help as well.
Q: Dizzy spells, feels pressure and pain when moving, more then 24 hours after hitting head?
My gf hit her head yesterday, and although it didn’t seem very bad at all, she apparently blacked out for a few seconds after and it took her quite a while to recover her balance. She is extremely active and athletic (yoga, roller blading, etc), and since yesterday she gets dizzy with even the slightest physical activity. She also says she feels constant pressure in the area where she hit her head, and pain when she moves. She doesn’t really like doctors, but I am worried should I urge her to go?
A: There’s no question, she needs to be seen ASAP in the ER if necesary. This sounds like a concussion, but you need to rule out a bleed or a bony injury as well. She needs urgent scan of her head.
Q: my husband was very sick with a fever the other day and now hes having severe head pain and it lasts for hours
my husband was sick with a high fever the other day and now hes been having severe sharp pain that shoots through his entire head, it goes away for 2 minutes and then it comes back more painful. this will go on for about an hour and a half, asprin and pain killers do not work. any ideas on what could be going on with him? he’s not sick anymore but is having this horrible pain in his head that even makes him cry.
A: I agree with all the responders. I do want to add that I recently had a lumbar puncture for a myelogram. It’s very similar to a spinal tap but rather than me having spinal fluid taken out, contrast was put in to see my nerves. The dr. gave me a small shot of lidocaine prior to giving me the lumbar puncture and it made the procedure really easy. The lidocaine does not go into the spinal canal where the spinal fluid is as it numbs up the area for the spinal needle to be inserted. All I felt was some pressure but no pain at all. If he needs a spinal tap, please make sure he or you mentions that someone said they have had it done and their dr. gives his patients lidocaine all the time for lumbar punctures including kids. Good luck and I hope he gets feeling better.
Q: Taking seasonique as of 8mos ago and had neck and upper head pain that is getting progressively worse?
I have been to a doc who told me to take ibprofen which is totally useless and a chiropractor who is attentive but the pain is still coming back. I stopped drinking cause it seems to trigger the neck pain but other than that i can’t figure out what else makes it come up. i can’t sleep. its not like muscle pain but it ranges from uncomfortable to totally debilitating. anyone know what this could be or if similar symptoms arise for those taking birth control please share. thanks!
A: Certain drugs can sometimes cause serious side effects. If you are still taking the birth control I don’t understand why your doctor has not considered these as being the cause of your symptoms or even aggravating an underlying condition. It is time for him to take this seriously by taking you off the pills and insist on further medical attention from a specialist who will be able to determine what is causing your pain. He may even recommend an MRI and MRA.
Check out www.drugs.com for more information on seasonique.

Q: What could be causing this head pain i have?
Im a 22yo female with no medical history of significance and i rarely get sick or see the doctor. Since last night (its morning now) ive been having these sharp radiating flashes of pain on the right side of my head (or brain?) above my right ear. they just come and go with no regularity and have not intensified or become increasingly worse. just constant. i have no nausea or dizzyness, etc but i am 35 weeks (8 months) pregnant. ive had no complications with my pregnancy other than a lot of swelling.
head pain just is something im leary of. i looked up brain aneurysm online and its something that shows no symptoms until it ruptures basically so i dont necessarily think it is something that extreme but should i be worried? how long show this persist until i talk to someone?
A: I think you should see a doctor…
Anxiety generally makes your conditions appear to be and feel worse….
I think it could be related to your pregnancy….. but go see a doctor so that you may have peace of mind….
All the best with you and your baby!
Q: Upon standing blood rushes to my head causing pain?
I’m having a problem lately. Upon standing up, blood rushes to my head giving me an immediate headache and very sharp pain in my ears. It is sometimes accompanied by my vision sort of “blacking out”. It usually stops right away if I lay down. Just fwi I don’t have high blood pressure as a matter of fact my bp runs low.
A: Low Iron.
Take a multivitamin. Actually, if you’re a “forgetter” like me, then go buy the Flintstones +Iron and keep them sitting by your computer… Eat 1-2 a day like candy…
